Count those calories! Halloween candy not as 'waistline-friendly' for adults

HOUSTON – Halloween isn't just for the kids anymore.  Parents dress up and go out there and do the leg work too.  So they deserve to pick at the candy too, right? But as adults, we tend to worry more about those calories, not so much cavities.

From the super scary to the extra sweet, even parents will be dressing up this Halloween and hitting the streets for their treats.

But experts say, the older we get, the more we need to watch out for all that sugar, fat and calories.  There is no such thing as a "good" piece of candy, it's both bad for your teeth, and your blood sugar.

"It doesn't discriminate. All the same rules apply to adults," says Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Ben Villalon.

Here are the spooky numbers!

The biggest culprit when it comes to fat, calories and sugar is our most favorite: chocolate.

For just one miniature Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, you'll take in 36 calories, 2 grams of fat, and 3 grams of sugar.

One bag of 20 piece M&M's?  68 calories, 3 grams of fat, and 9 grams of sugar!

And those snack size snickers?  For one piece, you're talking a whopping 72 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 9 grams of sugar!!

The sweets that will be much sweeter to your waist line?

One roll of Smarties at 25 calories, 6 grams of sugar and 0 grams of fat.

Or try Jolly Ranchers, they've got 50 calories, 7 grams of sugar and 0 fat.

You can still get the sweet, without the guilt.
And if you can't give up your chocolate, try a York Peppermint Pattie, it's only got 54 calories and 1 gram of fat!

And remember, everything in moderation.

"With adults we just have to be cautious of the candies we are consuming, the beverages we are drinking, all of those things, anything with sugar," says Pediatric Dentist, Amber Callis.

And if you want to throw in that glass of wine to pair with that chocolate?

Remember, that alcohol packs calories too.

One glass of wine can set you back up to 200 calories!
