Man kills mother, 2 neighbors, then himself in South Texas, deputies say

UVALDE COUNTY, Texas – A teenager killed his mother, then two neighbors before taking his own life Uvalde Co. Sheriff Charlie Mendeke said Sunday.

In his first statement about the shooting deaths Mendeke gave details about the shooting that happened Friday afternoon at a home Southeast of Uvalde.

The sheriff said 19 year-old Dylan Westerburg shot and killed his mother, and then shot and killed two brothers who lived next door.

Mendeke said Westerburg then shot and killed himself.

Uvalde County deputies joined with U.S. Border Patrol agents, and Texas DPS troopers outside a home for hours following the shooting.

Lawmen were not sure whether Westerburg was still alive inside, and the heavily armed officers were ready for any trouble.

Around 1 p.m. Saturday those officers began leaving the scene indicating the standoff was over.

Mendeke said Sunday in fact Westerburg had killed himself Friday afternoon.

The names of the other dead have not been released.
