South Houston police said 79-year-old Thomas Mixon was attacked at his home in the 1100 block of Iowa Street in May 2011.

Detectives said Turner forced his way through the back door of the home, beat Mixon up, ransacked a room, stole several guns and then left in Mixon's pickup truck.

Mixon, a Marine, testified against Turner.

Mixon said he lost all but two teeth. His family said every bone in his face was broken.

"It was very difficult to relive the whole thing, to go through it again," said Mixon's son. "You just don't want to see him go through something like that."

A jury is deliberating Turner's punishment. He faces up to life in prison.
