Fog, chilly rain smother SE Texas, but weekend changes ahead

HOUSTON – After mainly cloudy skies and scattered light rain Friday afternoon, the wet weather will build Friday evening through early Saturday morning before finally moving out of southeast Texas for good Saturday afternoon.

Expect Friday night to be very wet, with numerous showers and a few embedded thunderstorms.  Showers and storms will continue through early Saturday morning, when the first of two weekend cold fronts moves through Houston.

The first front will sweep the rain away and drop our temperatures only slightly. Our chance for storms will end near dawn, but a few scattered showers could linger into Saturday afternoon before drying up completely. Skies will remain cloudy for most of the day, with partial clearing possible by mid to late afternoon. Temperatures on Saturday will hold in the 50s to near 60 degrees all day long.

The second cold front will push through Houston Sunday morning.  This front brings much colder air to Houston. We won't feel the coldest air right away, as temperatures Sunday afternoon hold in the low to mid 50s under delightfully sunny skies. By Monday morning, though, lows will dip below freezing in many areas around southeast Texas.

Look for the cold air to stay put throughout next week, with high temperatures staying in the 40s and 50s.
