Man accused of drilling into sister-in-law's head

HOUSTON – A man accused of holding a drill gun to his sister-in-law's head appeared in court Wednesday morning.

Jay Warren Smith is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to a police report, his 61-year-old sister-in-law said he was drunk on Feb. 13, then attacked her with the drill gun for no apparent reason.

She started bleeding, but did not suffer any major injuries. It all happened inside their home near Clear Lake.

A judge ordered Smith, 53, to have no contact with his sister-in-law.

Records show Smith has a long criminal history including charges for drugs, drinking and driving, burglaries and sexual assault.

Records also show his sister-in-law filed a protective order against him last November.
