CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Lightning strike causes power flash along US 59 in SW Houston

HOUSTON – The KPRC 2 tower camera was rolling when Monday afternoon’s electric storms moved through the area.

Looking to the east, just up the road from the station, the camera captured the moment a lightning strike hit the ground, causing power lines to flash up close to US 59.

Thousands of people are without power following the storms and street flooding has also been reported.

Some storms remain possible through Monday evening.
