HOUSTON – A Houston man is spending more than 10 years in prison after a judge sentenced him Monday for possession of more than 5,000 grams of methamphetamine.

According to a press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office—Southern District of Texas, it all started in January 2020, when authorities learned Jesus Palacios, 25, a known drug dealer was selling meth by the kilogram in the Houston area.

It wasn’t until March 2021, according to the release, that Palacios was caught leaving his apartment with a beige-colored backpack and a large box and placing them into his car. When officers pulled him over, investigators say there was a “strong odor of marijuana” coming from his car.

A search was conducted, and officers found two boxes in the backseat, with three plastic containers with a “crystallized substance.” The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a lab test result revealed it was 5,768 grams of meth with a purity level of 88%.
