Letter to woman: 'This neighborhood does not need any blacks in it'

WICHITA, KS – A Wichita woman claims someone sent her a racist letter in the mail, telling her that black people were not welcome in her neighborhood.

"I hope this never happens to anyone else," Nancy Wirths told KSN.

Nancy Wirths said she is still shaken up and somewhat frightened by the anonymous letter that she received on Monday.

"I look over my shoulder. I watch. The kids aren't allowed to be outside," she said.

Wirths said the hand-written note that was addressed to "resident" was an attack on her and her biracial family. Wirths has nine grandchildren. Six of them are African-American.

"It doesn't make it who they are," Wirths said.

Wirths said she is dumbfounded by the situation and that her grandchildren should not have to deal with this type of hate.

"These are kids under the age of 10 where me and their parents are trying to raise them. You have to love everybody, be friends with everybody," Wirths said.

Police are investigating the letter. They said the person who wrote the note could face a disorderly conduct charge.
