Klein ISD teacher's aide accused of hitting kindergartener with shoe

HOUSTON – A mother whose daughter goes to McDougle Elementary in the Klein Independent School District is speaking out, claiming a teacher’s aide hit her in the head with a shoe.

“She hit my child in the head with a shoe,” MacKeishha Wade said. “Now she won’t go to school. She’s scared.”

Wade said the incident happened Tuesday when a substitute was filling in for her daughter's regular teacher.  She said her daughter told her she got in trouble for not staying in her seat.

Wade told KPRC2 that her daughter is in a special-needs classroom with six other students and five of them are nonverbal.  She has concerns about the children not being able to speak up if something does happen.

“These are little babies,” she said. “She’s in kindergarten and these are kindergarten to first-grade kids.”

In a statement, Klein ISD said, "A parent brought forth allegations to Klein ISD and McDougle Elementary regarding a classroom aide who allegedly hit a child on the head with a shoe. We are actively and thoroughly investigating the claim. Due to the serious nature of the allegation, the aide was removed from the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation.”

“I do know the teacher’s aide was not allowed on campus yesterday,” Wade said.  “Klein is doing an investigation but I don’t think it’s enough.”

Currently, Wade’s daughter remains enrolled in the school, but she hasn’t sent her back and she isn’t sure if she is going to.
