Judge: Former school principal will not lose teaching certification

HOUSTON – A judge ruled a former Houston Independent School District middle school principal involved in a cheating scandal will not lose her teaching certification.

A judge ruled there is insufficient evidence to revoke Mable Caleb's teaching certification.

Caleb, a former principal at Key Middle School and Kashmere High School, and several other HISD employees were involved in the district's investigation into accusations of financial fraud, theft, nepotism and cheating at Key Middle School in 2009.

The administrative judge ruled that Caleb is not responsible for the cheating, alleged to have occurred on state-mandated tests four years ago, officials said.

Caleb has denied any wrongdoing, but has since resigned from her position as principal of Kashmere High School in 2010.
