Humble pilot among 2 arrested in UK, suspected of intoxication

United says pilots were arrested Saturday in Scotland

HOUSTON – A pilot from Humble was among two United Airlines pilots who were arrested Saturday in the United Kingdom after authorities said they were suspected of being intoxicated.

Police and airline officials said the pilots were to fly 141 passengers from Glasgow, Scotland, to the United States.

A representative of the Paisley Sheriff Court, which is hearing the case, identified the pilots as 46-year-old Carlos Licona, of Humble, and 35-year-old Paul Brady Grebenc, of Columbus, Mississippi. Both men were charged with violations of Britain's transportation safety laws.

The men appeared Monday in court and were released on bail, according to the court representative.

United said Saturday's flight from Glasgow to Newark, New Jersey, was delayed for 10 hours while the airline sought replacement pilots.

On his LinkedIn page, Licona states he has served the United States Air National Guard for the last 28 years, currently serving in "Military Intelligence."

Licona states he has been a United Airlines 757/767 First Officer since January 2014.

From Sept. 2004 to Jan. 2014, a span of 10 years, 5 months, Licona states on his bio that he was a "Pilot/Check Airman/Simulator Instructor."

Monday, nobody came to the door at his Humble residence.

Saturday's arrests came barely a month after two Canadian pilots of an Air Transat plane were arrested at the Glasgow airport and charged with trying to fly while intoxicated.
