800-pound alligator found in parking lot taken to farm

SUGAR LAND, Texas – A gigantic alligator nicknamed Godzilla was released Monday at a farm in El Campo after being found in a Sugar Land parking lot on Saturday.

Gator catcher Christy Kroboth and her partner Chris took the 12-foot, 800-pound gator to the farm where he will live out the rest of his life. They guess he is around 50 years old.

Kroboth said the alligator is a gentle giant.

"He is beautiful," she said. "I thought he was awesome. I love these guys, so of course I think they're all great."

As a professional catcher, Kroboth got the call Saturday when workers at a strip center found the alligator roaming the parking lot.

Kroboth said he got turned around and was likely lost.

"When I started looking at him closer, I noticed he was completely blind in one eye and his other was cloudy," Kroboth said. "So he may be able to see shadows."

The alligator spent the rest of Saturday and all of Sunday in the bed of a pickup truck, which Kroboth said was safe.

"He was completely fine," Kroborth said. "He was in the shade. We were watering him down and would go out and talk to him and make sure there was no stress to him."

Kroboth said the alligator was released when the farm opened and that he was happy to be there.
