HPD: Man shot after couple robbed

HOUSTON – A man was shot after a couple was robbed in the Museum Park neighborhood.

Houston police said a couple was approached by an armed robber as they left their townhome along LaBranch near Wichita Monday evening.

"It was around 9:30 p.m.," said Ken Nealy, a detective with HPD's robbery division. "The man was in the driver's seat backing the car out of the driveway, and as the woman came around to the passenger door, the suspect charged her and pointed the gun at her."

According to police, the robber fired his weapon but no was wounded.

"He demanded their cash and the driver gave him the $20 out of his wallet," Nealy said.

The robber ran away, but officers said the crime did not end there.

"As the suspect turns to run, he notices another man pull up in front of the townhomes off LaBranch to head home. The suspect shot him in the torso before running off," said Nealy.

The gunshot victim, who was sitting in a pickup truck, is in his 60s. Officials said the bullet passed through the victim's kidney and spleen. He was rushed to a hospital, but his condition has not been released.

Investigators said they only had a vague description of the robber, but he was last seen wearing a baseball cap and a light-colored, button-down shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
