SUGAR LAND, Texas – It's a Skeeters game night in Sugar Land.
"I try to separate my personal goals and at the end of the day what I am here for in general," said Skeeters Outfielder Adam Godwin.
Adam Godwin has a passion for the game of baseball. Nine years now, he's pushing to reach baseball's mountain top.
"Every year, I've got a map back home. I throw a dart back behind me and wherever it lands, that's where we'll be going this year," said Godwin.
At Constellation Field, the Big League dreams remain in focus, especially for guys like Godwin. On game days, this becomes his sanctuary but away from the park he's been welcomed in by a local support group, he never imagined would be a possibility.
The Degeyter's, Shane, Monique, Caleb and Hayden, are a family that loves baseball and have opened their home to Godwin this season.
"They were the ones that said, 'Mom, check the status of the host families,'" said Monique Degeyter. "It was an easy decision. It's been a good experience."
"They have a stack for guys coming in, look through, meet the families," said Godwin. "Came over here and it's been a great fit."
Inside the house, Godwin routinely makes time for both Hayden and Caleb.
"It reminds me of being home, with my family. I am family oriented," said Godwin.
With his wife Kelly back home in Alabama, life on this circuit leads to quiet car rides to the ballpark. But often times, his new fan club is front and center at the ballpark, cheering on their new house guest. This relationship is the perfect fit.
"They talk baseball all the time, and what you can do to reach your goals. It kind of feels we've expanded our family a little bit," Monique said.
