Vigil, balloon release held for Manvel H.S. students killed in crash

MANVEL, Texas – Students and faculty at Manvel High School gathered on the football field to remember three lives taken too soon.

"This is a trying day for Manvel High School," Alvin Independent School District Director of Communication Daniel Combs said. "A couple of days ago, three students passed away. Out of that incredible pain this campus has experienced it has been incredible to see how the community, student body and faculty has come together. They have shown incredible strength."

Sara Silvas, Zori Petrova and Joshua Rodriguez, were seniors at the school. They were killed Wednesday afternoon after their car wound up in the ditch and caught fire near County Road 89 and County Road 100.

Friends of the teens read poems, sang songs and released balloons in their memory -- one color for each of them.

"These three students have left an incredible mark on Manvel High School," Combs said. "They were leaders, they were student athletes, they were friends. Vibrant by all descriptions, they loved life, they are dearly missed at this campus."
