HOUSTON – A man was robbed in the drive-thru of a Crosby bank and police identified a suspect from a cigarette left in the victim's car, officials said.
Investigators said the victim had just deposited a check in the drive-thru lane of Compass Bank, 6011 Main Street in Crosby on June 15, and when he drove off, a man walked in front of his vehicle, forcing him to stop. A second man then approached the vehicle and they both got in the car. The victim said the man in the back seat was armed and told him to back through the drive-thru window to withdraw $2,500. However, at the drive-thru window, the victim was told the amount was too large and he needed to go in the lobby.

The robbers told the man to do it and if he told anyone, he would be shot, according to court records. One of the robbers walked with the victim inside the bank, officials said. After the withdrawal, the suspects fled the scene.
The victim told a Harris County sheriff's deputy that the back-seat robber smoked a cigarette during the crime and left a cigarette butt in his ashtray. The cigarette was processed for DNA, which matched Donald Ray Frenney, 53, officials said.
The victim also identified Frenney through a photo line-up, court documents said.
Frenney was charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
The second suspect remains on the loose.
