Gun store employees stop attempted car burglaries, police say

HOUSTON – Employees at a gun store on the Katy Freeway near Kirkwood stopped a group of men from breaking into cars next to the store around midnight Tuesday, police said.

The store owner said two employees were at the store when they heard the attempted car break-ins.

Police said the employees ran outside and pointed their guns at two people in the group. The two were surprised and dropped their own guns.

"Two of the suspects were held at gunpoint," Houston police Lt. Larry Crowson said. "Two of the other suspects jumped in a vehicle and drove off. As they were driving off, they fired a shot at the employee who returned fire with an AR-15 rifle."

Thirty minutes later, police said, the three in that car showed up to West Houston Medical Center and dropped off a man with a gunshot wound in the back.

Police said the wounded man at the hospital is expected to survive. He is being questioned along with the two men who were arrested
