George Ranch High School teacher accused of 'sexting' student

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – Good teachers make an impact on their students, but administrators at George Ranch High School in Lamar Consolidated ISD are looking into whether one now former teacher stepped over the line.

The teacher resigned from the school in Richmond nearly a month ago, accused of sexting with a student. But parents weren't formally notified until Thursday after Channel 2 started making phone calls to the school.

"That's not appropriate and the teacher should be fired immediately," said mother Misty Gipson. "I'm pretty sure whoever the teacher is their certification should be taken."

In fact, after Channel 2 reached out, the school's principal, Dr. Frederick Black, sent a letter to parents Thursday that reads in part: "The employee was immediately placed on administrative leave, pending a formal investigation and police were contacted. The employee resigned on April 1."

A Channel 2 crew went to the listed address for the former teacher, who sources said is a 25-year-old who also worked as an assistant band director. There was no answer at the door, but parents said it's good the teacher has parted ways with the school.

"Once you work inside of a school, man, you have to adhere to the rules," said parent Anthony Williams. "You're an adult. These are kids you're working with and it's just wrong."

In his letter to parents, Dr. Frederick Black also told them he is limited to what he can share with them but said he was available if they would like to speak further about the case.

Officials said the teacher resigned after the allegations were presented.

Police have been contacted and a formal investigation is underway.
