Former President George H.W. Bush spends Christmas in hospital

Former President fighting a fever

HOUSTON – Former President George H.W. Bush is fighting a fever and has weathered what a family spokesman is calling "a few low energy days."

Doctors, who were hoping to release him by Christmas, changed their minds. The 88 year-old has suffered a series of setbacks, but doctors are said to be cautiously optimistic as the fever now appears to be under control.

Bush's wife, Barbara, their son Neil and Neil's wife are visited him in the hospital.They had Chinese food from Gigi's Asian Bistro delivered.

Dinner at Gigi's on Christmas day is a Bush family tradition. The former president was hospitalized over a month ago because of a nagging, lingering cough brought on by bronchitis.

A Bush family spokesman, Jim McGrath, tells local 2 the country's 41st present remains in good spirits and that he's "determined not to get grumpy about this."
