Fire at vacant motel on Eastex Freeway feeder road under investigation

HOUSTON – Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department responded to a fire at a vacant motel in northeast Houston.

Fire officials said the fire broke out around 8 a.m. Wednesday at the motel in the 9300 block of the northbound Eastex Freeway near Tidwell.

The Eastex Freeway feeder roads were closed for several hours while emergency crews were on scene. Heavy smoke caused drivers on the outbound lanes of the freeway to slow down near the motel.

The fire was declared under control around 9:20 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Investigators with HFD's Arson Bureau are investigating what caused the fire to start.

The Houston Fire Department said this is the same motel that caught fire in the early morning hours of December 31.
