Families accuse pool company of not finishing work after being paid

TOMBALL, Texas – Jennifer and Bill Grissom said the backyard of their Tomball home has been torn up for months.

They hired Passion Pools to put in a swimming pool and spa in August of last year, but eight months later, the pool is still not done.

"He got the permit at the end of August, and we didn't see him or hear from him until November when he dug the first time and he got his check," said Jennifer Grissom.

The Grissoms told Channel 2 they have paid Passion Pools more than $45,000 so far and now the work has stopped and they are having a hard time getting answers.

"Something that should be so fun and exciting has turned into a nightmare," she said.

The Grissoms aren't alone.

In Houston, Nicki James said she is dealing with the same headaches.

She also hired Passion Pools last summer to install a pool and spa, and the project remains unfinished.

"I asked them to not come back, I terminated my contract and hired someone else to complete the project for me," she said.

James is also a lawyer and is now in the process of filing a lawsuit against Passion Pools.

"I'd like to get my money back," she said.

Another Houston family did file a lawsuit against Passion Pools.

They also claim after many months, the work was never completed. They are hoping to get their money back in court.

Channel 2 stopped by the Passion Pools office in Magnolia, but no one was there and our repeated calls went unanswered.

In an email, someone from the company spoke specifically about the Grissom's pool project in Tomball:

"We have not left the job and have no intentions of abandoning the project. We are still in contract. There is many reasons to why the project has gone not as planned, do to firing subs, deportation, plumber holding equipment and plumber being detained. Upfront in every meeting rain delays are explained in great detail. One day of rain could result in three days of delay."

But the frustrated customers aren't buying the excuses.

"It's extremely disappointing that I still, almost eight, nine months later, I still don't have a swimming pool in my backyard," said James.

"I'd like to see him finish it," said Jennifer Grissom. "Do the right thing and finish it."
