Child hit by car in southwest Houston has died, father says

HOUSTON – The father of a child who was hit by a car Monday morning in southwest Houston said the child died.

The crash was reported around 7:30 a.m. in the 6600 block of Tarnef near KIPP CONNECT School, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Police said the driver of a black GMC Arcadia was driving on Tarnef when she hit the 4-year-old, who was walking in the crosswalk on DeMoss. Investigators said the boy failed to yield to traffic when he was hit.

The driver will not be charged.

The accident has devastated the boy's family.

The was walking his brother and sister to the first day of school when the crash happened, according to the boy's father.

"He dropped his brother and sister and he walked with his mother. When he crossed the street, the bus was right there, and this lady she came right behind the bus. She hit my son and dragged him all the way to the middle of the street," Aboobiada Abdullah said.

According to police, the driver stayed at the scene. After being questioned by police, the woman was released without charges.

"She didn't see him," Junaid Mohammad, a witness, said.

Police continue to investigate.

"I just want to be with them because I know how much I love my kids. I can't imagine. I just can't," Tracey Cochran, who lives nearby, said
