Emergency Operations Centers open due to inclement weather

Flash Flood Watch in effect for all of southeast Texas

HOUSTON – Emergency Operations Centers in the Houston area have opened because of the threat of bad weather.

"This is probably going to be the single most significant rainfall even that we've had for several months," said Francisco Sanchez of the Harris County Office of Emergency Management on Tuesday.

The water moved slowly in the Buffalo Bayou near the Sabine Bridge Tuesday night.  Few were out running.  If the water rises, runners know to be careful.

"Running, when you get to my age, is an everyday thing," said Thomas Hayes, a runner. "It gets a little bit dangerous for a couple of things.  You have the dirt from the side and the rain push it down.  Make it a little slick.  It looks like it's gonna be even.  The next thing you know you can slide."

For now, emergency workers watch the weather and will try and figure out where the rain will fall and how quickly.

"We don't know where it's going to happen so we have to be ready around the whole county and region as well," said Steve Fitzgerald of the Harris County Flood Control District.
