Man killed in crash on North Loop East

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a 32-year-old man died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident with an 18-wheeler around 3:05 p.m. on Jan 16.

The man was driving a brown Nissan Murano at a high rate of speed southbound on the Loop near McCarty Street when he struck the 18-wheeler, police said.

Police said the driver of the 18-wheeler was slowing down due to the loss of a left front tire on its tractor.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. He was questioned at the scene and did not appear to show any signs of intoxication, police said.

The victim was not wearing a seatbelt and was possibly using a cell phone at the time of the crash, police said.
