Downtown parking plan in place for Super Bowl festivities

HOUSTON – Virginia Alvarez works downtown and has her Super Bowl parking plan ready.

"I'm thinking I want to ask for vacation," Alvarez said.

If only it were that easy.

"My building has been pretty good about sending out notices about what's going to be closed and how to move around," she said.

Good thing it has, because road closure signs are up. Where not to park, too.

During Super Bowl week, where can you park?

"You can actually pay for a space in advance," Bob Eury said.

That's your best bet, said Eury, who is the executive director of the Downtown District.

He's also co-chair of the Super Bowl Transportation Committee.

The group's website allows you to pay for a parking spot early.

It also shows which spots are available and how much they cost. The price is locked in.

"We would strongly encourage that you park further away from Super Bowl Live and NFL Experience," Eury said.

Aladdin Mimri owns several parking lots in the downtown and midtown areas.

"From Wednesday to Sunday it's going to be very busy," Mimri said. "It's going to be good business. It's a blessing."

Or a parking pain, depending on who you talk to.

Bottom line is, get a plan ready -- if need be -- and know where you plan to go.
