Doctors warn about ‘do it yourself' plastic surgery

HOUSTON – Michelle Herbert couldn't be happier with her results after visiting Houston Plastic Surgeon Dr. Young Cho.

But Dr. Cho tells Local 2 he's seeing more patients who are looking to avoid the doctor's office and hefty medical bills in favor of do-it-yourself plastic surgery.

"They're going in to provide injections into their face, into their lips, into their breast or buttock area, so adding things to the body is a very common procedure in the do-it-yourself world", said Dr. Cho.

These makeshift fillers like cooking oil, fiberglass, and caulk are not FDA approved.

The results can be devastating. Infection, scarring, disfigurement, bruising, pain, or worse.

"When you start toying or injecting things into the body you can create a lot of damage that can be irreversible. Some of that damage can cost a lot more to you in the future, and in some cases it can even cost your life," said Cho.
