Parents want Twitter account shut down

HOUSTON – Disturbing videos of teenagers fighting are making the rounds on social media.

While not affiliated with the Santa Fe Independent School District, the Twitter account @santa_fe_fights where the videos are being posted appears to have been up for months despite growing concerns.

"It's just scary to know that stuff like that goes on. That was very shocking," said Rebekah Gerringer, a parent who has children in the Santa Fe School District.

Although it's hard to tell exactly which schools the fights took place, in some of the videos you can see the name Santa Fe on a wall of what appears to be a cafeteria.

What's also clear is these fights are serious and parents want the Twitter account shut down.

"As a parent, I wouldn't want my kids to be posted on something like that, starting that or even being involved in it. It's very alarming," Jason Gerringer said.

According to a spokesperson with SFISD, the district has contacted Twitter to file a complaint to deactivate the account and they're encouraging concerned parents to do the same.

"If they're just using this to do stuff like this, I don't think that's a good thing at all," Rebekah Gerringer said.

Until something is done though or the account is finally taken down, the couple has a warning for other parents.

"Be more in touch with your kids and socially aware of what's going on around you, especially with your kids. Because it can go from a fight to something else," Jason Gerringer said.
