According to a statement from Dickinson Independent School District spokeswoman Tammy Dowdy, the teacher was placed on administrative leave Wednesday after the allegations came to light. The teacher later resigned, she said.

Dowdy said the district is cooperating with League City police as officers conduct an investigation.

League City police confirmed Devera turned himself in Tuesday and was booked on an improper relationship between educator/student charge.

Police said the charge is a second-degree felony. Devera's bond was set at $20,000.

League City police on Monday said they were investigating the incident that involved Devera and a 17-year-old student at the school after a Dickinson ISD liaison said the teacher might be involved in a relationship with a student.

"You would never expect this here," said one 10th grader. "Especially for a small town like Dickinson and especially from that teacher. From what I hear he's really quiet," one Dickinson student said.
