A Harris County sheriff’s deputy crashed his car into a tree while driving drunk, according to court documents.
John Robert Lehmiller, a 24-year-veteran with the Harris County Precinct 4 Sheriff’s office his car Aug. 27 into a tree in 2700 block of Woodsboro Drive while driving drunk, according to deputies.

Witnesses said they heard a crash outside their house, went outside to check it out and they saw Lehmiller stumbling out of the driver’s side of the car.
The witnesses said Lehmiller was apologetic and said he was coming from a friend’s house.
Deputies said Lehmiller’s eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred.
Deputies said Lehmiller told them that he had just left a retirement party, where he had been drinking, but he said he wasn't driving the car at the time of the crash.
Lehmiller was questioned but could not tell deputies who was driving, according to court documents.
Deputies said the driver's side airbag was the only one that deployed, which indicated that there was only one person in the car at the time of the crash.
Lehmiller refused a breath test at the scene. A blood sample was taken at a hospital for intoxication testing, according to court documents.
Lehmiller was charged with driving while intoxicated after his blood-alcohol level tested over the legal limit, according to deputies.
Lehmiller was placed in an administrative position pending resolution of the case, according to deputies.
