Deputies: Baby dies after being left in hot car

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – An infant died after he was left alone in a hot car.

Brazoria County sheriff's deputies said the child was found outside a trailer home along County Road 685 on Sunday evening.

Investigators said the 2-month-old boy's family had a baptism party for one of their four children. The mother went to the grocery story with the boy. When she returned home and unloaded the groceries, she apparently forgot to unload the boy, too, deputies said. Detectives said the 33-year-old woman started cooking and preparing for the event.

About an hour later, a guest at the party asked about the child. Investigators said the mother then realized she left her son in the car.

The family immediately called 911, officials said. The boy was unresponsive in his car seat when paramedics arrived. He was later pronounced dead.

Investigators have not said if the mother will face any charges.

Deputies and Children's Protective Services officials said they have never investigated the family.
