Deer Park Fire Department respond to fire inside Shell plant

DEER PARK, Texas – Investigators are working to find out what caused a fire at the Hexion plant in Deer Park Tuesday.

Fire crews from Deer Park and the nearby Shell plant responded to the one-alarm fire at 6:45 p.m.

Photos sent in by Channel 2 viewers showed thick black smoke billowing from the plant.

Hexion, which makes epoxy resins, released a statement late Tuesday evening:

"There was a small fire that was quickly extinguished in one of our production units at Hexion's Deer Park site. There were no injuries and local fire emergency crews responded quickly to extinguish the fire. 

"We quickly notified the local community through our alert system, although the fire was contained entirely within our site.

"In accordance with our company policy, we will conduct a detailed investigation of this incident to identify the causes and any necessary measures to prevent such an occurrence in the future."

No one was hurt and officials said there was no threat to the surrounding community.
