Coast Guard officer accused of theft

HOUSTON – A member of the Coast Guard has been accused of using a government-issued credit card to buy expensive electronics for himself.

Petty Officer Brandon Lee Scott, 28, of Dickinson, has been charged with three counts of theft of government property.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, between May and June 2011, Scott used a Coast Guard-issued credit card three times to buy two Apple MacBook Pro laptop computers, a 55-inch HDTV and two 10-inch Android tablets.

If convicted, Scott would face up to 10 years and prison and/or a $250,000 per charge.
