HOUSTON – A local mother is calling for justice after police said her daughter was sexually assaulted in a southeast Houston neighborhood.
Houston Mayor Annise Parker and city leaders stepped up efforts Tuesday to prevent a similar crime from happening again.

According to police, a 15-year-old high school student was raped last week.
Police said run-down properties in the neighborhood are dangerous to the community because they often become a haven for criminal activity.
"I can say if the property owner would have did their due diligence, and some of the property owners who are around here with some of the vacant lots and the vacant properties that are open, they wouldn't have had anywhere to take her," said councilwoman Wanda Adams.
Police said the girl was abducted from a bus stop on Oct. 24, taken to the neighborhood and raped.
"I have a daughter who rides the METRO bus home from high school every day. As a parent, it's just unimaginable that someone could snatch my daughter or anyone's daughter off the street in broad daylight," said Parker.
The victim's mother said she is desperate to find the man responsible.
"I will not stop searching because justice has to be served," she said.
Adams said the teenage girl and her family are meeting with HPD to hopefully come up with a composite sketch of the man who allegedly raped her.
