Child safe, suspect wanted after carjacking at day care

HOUSTON – Police are searching for the driver who stole a vehicle with a child inside.

It happened at around 7:15 a.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of Evergreen Drive near Linden Street in southeast Houston. Houston police say a woman left her car running outside of the Little Bo Peep Day Care with her 7-year-old son in the backseat while she dropped her younger child off inside.

Frank Cordova lives across the street and saw the whole thing.

"I saw one of the workers who works there chasing down a car so I came to the end of the block to witness what was going on," Cordova said.

Police say the little boy was able to get out of the car a short time later and he was rescued. The suspect, however, ditched the car about a mile away and hasn't been found yet.

The child's mother says it's a miracle he wasn't hurt

"God saved him, God did it," the mother said.
