Child dies shortly after leaving west Houston day care

HOUSTON – A child died Tuesday shortly after leaving a west Houston day care center.

Houston police said the 3-year-old became very ill at Kidizone, 3663 S. Dairy Ashford, Tuesday morning as a result of asthma problems. The day care director said they tried to get help for the girl immediately and no foul play was involved.

"This girl had a history of severe asthma. When she started Friday, she had three or four asthma attacks already," said Armie Gonzalez, the day care manager-director.

The child was taken to Texas Children's Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The girl's name was not released.

Homicide detectives headed to the day care to investigate. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
