Car crash leaves dozens without power

Authorities: Driver fell asleep at wheel

HOUSTON – A car crashed into a utility pole and managed to knock out power to dozens of homes and businesses in the area.

Investigators said the driver fell asleep at the wheel about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday when he plowed into the wooden utility pole along Jones Road near FM 1960.

Utility officials said about 20 to 50 customers in the area were without service. Jones Road had to be shut down in both directions while the accident was being investigated, but has since reopened.

The driver was not injured, but was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Right now, officials said he faces only a traffic violation.
