Man, 20, arrested in stabbing death of mom while 2 young kids nearby

HOUSTON – Deputies have arrested and charged a 20-year-old with stabbing a mother to death inside her northwest Harris County home while her children were there.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Dante Thomas was arrested for the murder of Linda Vu, 24, on Thursday. He was Vu's live-in boyfriend. Authorities said he confessed that he and Vu got into an argument and he stabbed her.

Harris County deputies went to the scene at the Inwood Meadows Apartments on Antoine Drive Tuesday around 10:45 p.m. Investigators said a roommate found the Vu's body.

Her roommate, Kylon Buffington, called Vu a friend. He shared an apartment with her and her two kids. On Tuesday night, he discovered her body.

"It was horrible. Nothing you'd want to see," Buffington said. "Straight laid out. Soulless, blood everywhere."

Vu's body lay lifeless in her bedroom. Police said the mother of two was stabbed to death.

"Deputies cleared the house and found that there was no suspect," said Sgt. Robert Spurgeon, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators combed the apartment at the intersection of Fairfield Forest Drive and Antoine Drive until dawn, piecing together clues as who may have killed Vu.

Police said Vu's two young children, both under 10 years old, were there when it happened. Buffington said they saw everything.

Buffington told us where the body was found, saying, "Right here on this couch."

From there, Buffington said he took Vu's children to a safe place and called police.

As day broke, word spread. Vu's co-workers stopped by; they appeared shaken and hurt.

"She was a good employee. We're going to miss her," said John York, who identified himself as Vu's boss.
