Bob Allen funeral memorial

HOUSTON – A longtime Houston sports anchor, Bob Allen, meant different things to different people. The veteran broadcasting legend deeply touched the lives of those who were closest to him.

“We all lost someone special, unique to all of us,” Robert Poland said.

There were tears.

“No one could analyze a story the way Bob could. When he wanted to, he could blow you away in front of that camera,” Tim Melton said.

Punctuated by moments of laughter. “Bob Allen's your brother? When I heard that, I knew I had them,” Ken Egalnick said.

Allen had a storied career, conducted countless interviews with some of the biggest names in Houston sports. But there was so much more to him. “He was a man whose character was not celebrity, but love,” Rev. Bill Lawson said.

Bob’s love for kids was undeniable. He didn’t just lend his name to charities like The Sunshine Kids and Special Olympics, he poured his heart and soul into them. lt's all part of the monumental legacy he leaves behind.
