Baby left sitting in middle of road in SW Houston

Police say thieves took off with family's vehicle

HOUSTON – A child was left sitting in the middle of a road after a carjacking in southwest Houston about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Officials said a 34-year-old mother was saying goodbye to her sister at an apartment complex at 7500 Cook Street. Then, as the mother got into her car, she said a man came up and demanded her keys.

The mother said she looked up and saw another man put a gun to her sister's head.

The mom got three of her kids out of the car, but before she could get her 1-year-old daughter out, police said the thieves took off with their gray and red Rav 4.

Reynaldo Loredo found the little girl sitting in the middle of Stroud Street not far away from the carjacking.

"We were pretty surprised," said Reynaldo Loredo. "Shocked. How could somebody leave a little baby in the middle of the road? It was like ten o'clock at night. We were lucky we saw it."

Police said the baby and her mother were both taken to the hospital. They said both are okay.

Police continue searching for the thieves.
