HOUSTON – A dog who gained national attention earlier this year after being found shot in the face and stuffed in a garbage bag is back in the spotlight.
The dog, Buck, has been invited to throw the first pitch at Sunday's Astros game, though exactly how he'll fulfill his duties is yet to be determined.
Buck was discovered on the side of a Montgomery County road in January and lost his sight as a result of the unbelievable act of animal cruelty. In the weeks and months that followed, his story went viral and donations and support started pouring in from all over the world.
Buck's owner, Tami Augustyn, said he will be participating in Sunday's "Dog Days" Astros game representing The Buck Foundation, the organization that bears his name.
"All of the support I got made me realize I had an opportunity, not only to help other animals but also raise awareness of animal abuse, animal cruelty, and animal welfare issues," said Augustyn.
Buck currently visits school classrooms as a way to educate children about animal cruelty.
Because Buck's disability leaves him unable to fetch – and the lack of fingers makes it impossible for him to throw.
Augustyn is working to figure out how he will participate in Sunday's opening ceremony.
