6-year-old saves toddler from drowning

K'Xavier McCullough says he noticed child floating in water

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A six-year-old boy is being credited with pulling a toddler out of a Harris County river after the child fell into the water and nearly drowned.

The Harris County Sheriff's Department said the one-year-old boy somehow fell off of a floating raft at Love's Marina and Park in Crosby Saturday evening.

By the time emergency crews arrived at the scene, the toddler had been pulled from the water and another witness had performed CPR.

The child was breathing on his own when flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. His condition was described as critical.

K'Xavier McCullough, 6, told Local 2 he noticed the child floating in the water.

"I just saw a white bump and I went over there and picked him up," said McCullough.

The man who performed CPR on the boy told Local 2 he undergoes CPR training annually through his employer. This was the first time he's ever had to actually perform it on a person.
