CYPRESS, Texas ā Four students worked together to stop a man suspected of stabbing more than a dozen people at Lone Star College's Cy-Fair campus despite all the confusion.
Those students have received a lot of attention for their actions, but Eric Bertrand said he's no hero.
"We didn't do anything yesterday that law enforcement, firefighters and troops don't do for us every day," said Bertrand.
Bertrand described hearing some sort of commotion on campus and then saw a girl bleeding.
"She was holding her neck and bleeding trough her fingers down her blouse," said Bertrand.
Bertrand said he grabbed paper towels and told the girl's friend to apply pressure to the wound. He then started running after the suspect, chasing him through a building and into the parking lot.
Bertrand was one of four students who took off after suspect Dylan Quick, who has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault.
Steven Maida said he didn't even think about the potential danger as he started trailing the suspect.
"I'm not going to challenge anyone to a fight, but I only heard it was a knife, so I wasn't too worried about it," said Maida.
"In retrospect, the first thought I think I had was when we were about 5 yards away from the guy and I knew there was going to be a tackle made. I remember looking at his hands just to make sure he still didn't have the weapon in his hands, a gun or a knife ... I didn't know what the weapon was at this point, to be honest with you," said Bertrand.
