2 people suffer burns in northeast Houston house fire

HOUSTON – Two people were injured Tuesday in a house fire in northeast Houston.

The fire started just before 9:30 a.m. at a home on Leffingwell at Rand Street.

The two were taken the hospital with minor burns, officials said.

"They were bursting out of the front door and the windows. It was just big flames coming outside the home,” neighbor William Spellmon said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On the way to the fire, a driver hit one of the responding fire trucks, the fire chief said.

The driver of the car told a wrecker driver high bushes along the road made it impossible to see the truck coming.

Their car was badly damaged, but no one was hurt in the crash.
