2 arrested on gun charge after library evacuated

BAYTOWN, Texas – A library was evacuated after police thought a gun was inside.

Baytown police evacuated the Sterling Library, 1 Mary Wilbanks Ave., on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said a woman reported that her gun was stolen from her home in September. That woman got in touch with the two women she thought stole the gun and they made arrangements to meet, investigators said.

Detectives said the woman agreed to buy her gun back for $100 and met Shabrae Buchanan, 25, and Angelique Gold, 21, at a business in the 800 block of Texas.

The woman called police when Buchanan and Gold tried to negotiate the price for the gun. The duo then left and headed toward the library, investigators said.

Buchanan and Gold went into the library and police quickly showed up.

"They were searching in the waste cans and in the female bathroom," witness Gary Maynard said.

The women were both arrested, but the gun wasn't there. Police said they found it in some nearby bushes.

Buchanan and Gold have both been charged with felony theft of a firearm.

Police said they don't want the gun to go back to its owner because it was allegedly stolen during a drug transaction.
