HOUSTON – A section of Highway 290 was shut down for several hours after a man was hit and killed by an 18-wheeler.
The crash happened about 8 p.m. Monday along Highway 290 near Brittmoore in northwest Harris County.

Investigators said the man was walking along an elevated part of the freeway when he was hit by the truck. The driver of the truck told police by the time he spotted the man, he didn't have enough time to stop or swerve to avoid him.
The victim died at the scene. His name hasn't been released.
