Handicapped adults make crafts sold at HLSR

HOUSTON – There are many shops at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and one features handmade items made by a special group of people.

Brookwood, near Brookshire, was founded 20 years ago to help handicapped adults.

The residents support Brookwood through their plant and handicraft businesses.

"We want to try to teach people to play with the cards they are dealt," founder Yvonne Streit said. "Whatever those cards may be, we need to really work on it."

The residents have set up a shop at the Rodeo, and they have lots of picture frames ready for purchase.

The residents said they want to meet people who come to the rodeo, and they hope that those people will come see them after the rodeo packs up.

"Please come to Brookwood," resident Carrie Prados said. "We would love to have everyone come to Brookwood."
