HOUSTON – Flights bound for George Bush Intercontinental Airport were temporarily grounded Thursday afternoon as thunderstorms moved through the area, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The ground stop is in effect from 1:34 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, with a 30% to 60% chance of being extended, the FAA said.

The restriction applies to departures headed to IAH from several air traffic control centers, including Atlanta (ZTL), Houston (ZHU) and Fort Worth (ZFW).

The ground stop means flights scheduled to arrive at Bush Airport could be delayed at their departure airports while the restriction is in place.

Travelers flying through IAH Thursday afternoon should check directly with their airlines for the latest information on flight times and potential delays.

The FAA may adjust or extend the ground stop depending on how thunderstorms develop and affect air traffic around Houston.
