Cold front brings storm chances to Houston tonight

Friday Storm Threat: Severe Weather Possible:

We’re actively tracking a low potential for severe weather. We’ll watch for the chance for isolated storms Friday afternoon into the evening both ahead and along the front. Right now, the areas in yellow show a storm risk of 2/5 and the green shows a severe storm risk of 1/5: Strong wind gusts, thunderstorms, and large hail are all a possibility.

It isn’t until after sunset when the front moves farther south that rain chances become more scattered for Houston and south of I-10.

Storms continue to move southeast, arriving to the coast after midnight.

Marathon Weekend:

Behind the front colder, drier air moves in for the weekend.

If you’re running or watching the Chevron Houston Marathon, the forecast looks close to ideal. Sunday morning temperatures will start between 42 and 46 degrees, with mostly clear skies and a light north wind around 5 mph. This is a near perfect forecast for runners. The rest of marathon day should bring a slight warm-up to the upper 50s by lunchtime with continued light winds.

Looking back, previous years have brought much colder, windier, or even rainy conditions to the city during marathon weekend, so this forecast stands out as runner friendly.
