Downpours return for Houston’s afternoon commute, flash flooding ongoing in the Texas Hill Country

Ongoing recovery efforts in the Hill Country will be hampered by more heavy rain on Monday

We are kicking off the week with another round of showers and thunderstorms. These storms are very hit-or-miss. If you do see a storm it can bring a quick heavy downpour and frequent lightning strikes. Otherwise it’s humid and hot.

Monday afternoon thunderstorms develop and are north of I-10, bringing the chance for downpours during the evening commute.

Flood Watch and Warnings: San Antonio Watches & Warnings:

Flood WARNING: From 5:34 am today until 3:30 am Tuesday for the Guadalupe River at Hunt affecting Kerr County.

Flood Watch: A portion of south central Texas is under a flood watch until 9 tonight. This does include - Burnet, Kerr, Kendall Counties. We’re tracking rainfall totals of 2-5″ with isolated storms producing 7 to 9″

Flood watch in effect until 9 PM Monday. Locally heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding across portions of south-central Texas. A weak upper-level system combined with above-normal moisture may lead to heavy localized rainfall and rapid runoff.

Tracking the tropics:

A 30% chance of cyclone formation looms. We’re monitoring a trough of low pressure near the southeastern coast, expected to move westward across Florida into the northeastern Gulf by Tuesday. This could bring heavy flooding to parts of Florida and the north-central Gulf Coast next week.
