Downpours return Sunday afternoon across SE Texas

Sunday’s Forecast:

Stormy Weekend Ahead: Thunder Rolls Across Texas. Brace for another round of thunderstorms Sunday, peaking between 12–7 PM.

Showers and storms fire up mainly west of Houston
Showers and storms push into Harris county and move north

We’re tracking another chance of downpours as we sit between two high-pressure systems, fueling a stormy Sunday, for some not all.

The best way to think about why we’ll see rain chances increase is to think of the jet stream as a rope. With high pressure dominating west and east of us, it pushes the jet stream up, which will create a dip in the upper-level flow across Texas.

Low pressure trough and gulf moisture trigger rain across Texas

For the next 3 days, we’ll track for the chance for rain with a break, hopefully, by mid-week.

Rain chances gradually decrease

Tracking the tropics:

There is an area of concern across the eastern Gulf. This time of year front stall out in this area and it becomes a focal point for tropical development. Over the next 7 days there is a 20% chance that a system can develop. Whether this turns into an organized system or not it will bring increased moisture along the coast.

Temperatures are expected to stay consistent across Houston, with highs sticking to the lower to mid-90s through the weekend and beyond.

It’s been a few year’s since we’ve had a summer weather pattern like the last few weeks of more than commonly stormy weather. Next week, we’ll finally start to string a few dry (albeit very hot) days together in a row. so you have a chance to get some of those outdoor projects done!
